Binance Account Locked or Suspended: Common Causes and How to Appeal
A locked Binance account is not one problem — it is five different ones. Match what you see on screen to the actual cause, then follow the right fix instead of panicking.
"My Binance account is locked" describes at least five different situations with five different causes, timelines and fixes. Reacting to the wrong one — or worse, trying to force your way around a lock — is how a temporary restriction becomes a permanent one. This guide starts from what you actually see on screen, maps it to the likely cause, and lays out the appeal path that fits.
First, the rule that applies to every case below: never try to bypass a lock with a second account, a relative's identity, or a VPN. Binance links accounts by device, documents and behavior; evasion attempts are detected, and they convert "restriction under review" into "terms violation" — a much worse category.

Case 1: login blocked after a security alert
You try to log in, fail, and find an email about suspicious login attempts or a password change you did not make. This is the lock working as designed — someone probably tried to break in, and the system froze the door.
Your order of operations matters here: secure your email first (new password, check forwarding rules and recovery options an attacker may have planted), because every account recovery flows through it. Then use the official password reset from the Binance app or website — typed address, not a link from any email. Expect a withdrawal cooldown after regaining access; as explained in our 2FA reset guide, that hold protects you. If you cannot regain access at all, use the official support flow and be ready for identity re-verification.
Case 2: "account restricted" with a compliance or verification notice
A banner or email asks you to complete additional verification: re-submit documents, prove address, answer source-of-funds questions. This is not an accusation. Compliance re-checks trigger on schedules, on regional regulation changes, and on routine risk reviews. The fix is boring: provide exactly what is asked, accurately, once. Cutting corners — edited documents, someone else's utility bill — is the one move that can make this unrecoverable. If your document keeps being rejected, the causes are usually mechanical; see why verification fails.
Case 3: only withdrawals are disabled
You can log in and trade, but withdrawals are off. Check whether you recently changed your password, reset 2FA, added a new device, or modified security settings — each of these starts a fixed cooldown during which withdrawals pause automatically. Nothing is wrong; nothing needs appealing; the timer expires on its own. Withdrawal-specific risk-control holds have their own logic, covered in withdrawal suspended by risk control.
Case 4: a single product is restricted
P2P disabled, a derivative product unavailable, a card feature gone — while everything else works. Feature-level restrictions usually come from product-specific rules: a P2P dispute in progress, regional availability changes, appeal outcomes, or missing product-level verification. Read the in-app notice for that product carefully — it names the reason more often than people expect — and resolve that specific issue. A P2P restriction after a dispute, for example, lifts through the dispute process, not through general support; see how P2P appeals work.
Case 5: full suspension
The rarest and most serious: a notice that the account is suspended for terms violations or regulatory reasons. Common real causes include: registering from or moving to an unsupported region, VPN use to spoof location, identity mismatches, linkage to fraudulent funds (sometimes through no fault of your own — e.g., a P2P counterparty paid you with stolen money), or multi-account schemes.
The only path is a formal appeal through official support. To give it the best chance:
- Appeal once, completely — a single submission with your account email, the exact notice text, relevant transaction IDs, and documents that address the stated reason.
- Tell the truth, including uncomfortable parts. If you used a VPN or moved countries, say so and document your real situation. Reviewers have your device and login data; a story that contradicts it ends the appeal.
- Stay inside official channels. No social-media "escalation agents", no paid recovery services — every one of them is either useless or a scam.
- Be patient. Compliance reviews take days to weeks. Repeated tickets reset queues rather than accelerate them.
What happens to your funds
In most restriction cases, funds remain in your account and withdrawable once the specific issue clears — that is why matching cause to fix matters more than speed. In suspension cases, Binance commonly allows a one-time withdrawal of remaining balances after identity verification, except where funds themselves are under investigation. During any of this, ignore anyone contacting you with "we can unfreeze your funds" — the only people who message you first about a frozen account are scammers.
Prevention, briefly
Most locks in cases 1–3 are preventable with the same short list: authenticator or passkey 2FA instead of SMS, an anti-phishing code so you can spot fake alert emails, accurate KYC that matches your current documents, and no gray-zone behavior (region spoofing, account sharing, P2P shortcuts). The whole setup takes a quarter of an hour — the 15-minute security checklist walks through it.
